My name is Kevin Durant. I live in a brick house with a machine gun mounted on the roof. I am looking for a woman who hates Democrats more than me and wants to put them in prison camps. I play golf a lot which will give you plenty of time to prepare meals. I drive a green BMW with a custom license plate that reads FTHEDEMS.

What I found most interesting was a common theme between the two articles. In the text that Luke Farritor unveiled is Philodemus criticizing the Stoics. Fast forward two thousand years and the art world criticizes Elena Veldez's artwork. Times change, but human beings don't.

As I get older, I become more of a live and let live person. I believe in a simple philosophy: do whatever you want as long as you harm no one else with the caveat of not burdening me or society with the consequences. I read the Elena Valdez article and can't fathom that some people get excited about what they wear or have their souls fed, but what do others think about what they wear? But those people might wonder why you write comments in a news article and comment on others. We are all different, and I agree with this saying that our diversity is our strength in this arena, as it allows people to pursue passions and get enjoyment out of life.

To the scolds who want to condemn everything, they have always been with us and always will be. The goal of any political movement is to keep them as far away from Power as possible. Though I could care less about Elena's art and its philosophy, I admire her giving the middle finger to the woke fashion crowd; the more that is done in all aspects of culture and life, the better off we all will be.

Expand full comment

Recently, and probably waited too long, I adopted Ricky Gervais attitude “and I don’t care”. At least to some extent ;)

Expand full comment

If "...those people might wonder why...blah blah...write comments," I do it for the attention. (So there probably goes that).

Oh, but that’s the attitude they want us all to adopt. Don’t settle for that - we all need to find our passion and help others find and kindle theirs.

Amen, married to a woman who is absolutely the best and better than I deserve. Hell I would leave myself if I could. But I for sure would never seek another person to be with if something happened to her. I can and do appreciate the solitude and my three old cars and family are enough. Travel would always be there. But family is for me, the best. I have traveled more than most people ever dreamed of. It’s not what it used to be.

Haha, I feel the same way. Never mind adapting. I've tired of my own baggages, my own shit bores me, and I don't even want to explain myself. Let alone knowing the shit and burden of someone new. I'd be ok with a dinner, a show, or similar casual social calls. But I'm not changing anything at my home so no one's moving in TYVM.

I wonder if Bonnie feels differently because she married her high school sweetheart she met when she was 15. The way I see it, going through the dating scene in my 20s was enough. Can't see making all that efforts again. Too exhausting. In my golden years I won't want to waste time trying with random unimportant people. I love globetrotting too like her but I'd just as soon round up my single and widowed friends for a group trip, or go on my own.

Thank you. It is my wife who is being treated for bladder cancer. The chemo is inserted into the bladder via a catheter, lasting only about 20 minutes. This is her second course of six, and so far, no side effects except minor soreness from the catheter. Low grade growths that are non invasive. The prognosis is excellent, but it is a lifetime of periodic examinations as the cancer has a 50% recurrence rate, but not life threatening if treated.

Expand full comment

It does get more tiring as the treatments go on. But within a few months, 80% of my strength returned. Still not 100%, but still alive💗

Expand full comment

I neglected to mention that this was her THIRD treatment. The first six used a more corrosive chemical, yet she had only minor side effects. This time, the chemical is actually a weakened tuberculosis bacteria that has been used for 40 years with great success. It is much milder than the first one. The fact that it doesn't enter the blood stream is the reason for milder side effects, IF any! We both are upbeat, and the two hour drive to Atlanta is becoming routine and goes by pretty quickly. In fact, we leave a little early and have breakfast or lunch at Einsteins Bagels before going to the hospital. ALMOST a treat that makes things much more palatable. We are ALL on a limited time frame. I'm 73 and my wife is five years younger. We have had 44 years together and our marriage has been as happy as it could be. Even through some difficult financial and emotional times, our faith and commitment has been unshaken. We are BOTH lucky people and are grateful for what God has granted us. We are not rich, financially, but wealthy in love. What more could anyone want?

Have you actually had chemo? I did 8 "rounds" for Hodgekins' Lymphoma and it went from near nothingburger to near debilitating by the 5th round.

Expand full comment

What a compassionate reply! Are you trying to tell him he should stop chemo, and try another Cure?

Expand full comment

Not in the least! I realize that I am merely a single data point, but one who has gotten very tetchy about people making light of chemo. It is a process that involves a series of ritual poisonings performed in the hope that the chemicals will do more damage to the bad stuff than to the body itself. It is a classical short term pain for long term gain. (If it works.) I know of no alternative for a blood cancer such as I had -- I certainly looked! Maybe it "got better" for somebody out there -- it sure didn't for me. Until a month or two after it was done. Why am I beating this? Because I was able to work through enough of the early "cycles" that the allowed short-term disability payments could carry me through the later cycles when they were needed. If I encourage a realistic approach, it's worth it. I DO NOT advocate for any unproven alternative.

Expand full comment

To be fair, Robert’s wife is having a completely different type of chemo — bladder infusion, which is “targeted” to the actual bladder (my spouse went through it during Covid no less) — as opposed to the intravenous “classic” chemo you had, where the poison circulates throughout your body trying to find/kill the “bad” cells (but also unfortunately killing good cells). All chemo is an adventure in suffering, but the targeted one is less horrible…

Expand full comment

Never meant to be unfair! Though the targeted variety is a new one on me. Thanks!

I enjoyed your podcast this week. You (Suzy) have mentioned several times that virtually all young people in the Northeast are liberal. It occurred to me that your worldview, while apparently unorthodox in the Northeast, is probably closer to the norm for liberals in the South, in places such as Jackson, Mississippi. If you have never done a speech or debate in Jackson, I think you would be a big hit with liberals and moderates and probably with certain conservatives also . Millsaps College is a lovely liberal arts college in Jackson which heavily emphasizes critical thinking and seems like it would be an ideal partner for a Free Press event in Mississippi.
