The show is comedy genius. But...sadly, the real Larry David is as close-minded as the ridiculous Hollywood crowd he skewered on a regular basis. The entire last sequence about the water bottle is based on a lie about the Election Integrity Act. Of course, it's easier to generalize and make up your interpretation of the law, as tons of liberals and lawmakers (and corporations) did, than to actually read the text and understand it. I know this all sounds a bit petty, but I hate that one of my favorite shows will always have this little fly in the ointment for me.

I agree with you as well. I have watched every season and I passed on this one because I am tired of the LEFT using "out of context" information to lie to their base, which gets them all riled up and creates more division.

And to think he made an entire season out of this BS.

MYTH: “It’s an atrocity … they passed a law saying you can’t provide water for people standing in line while they’re waiting to vote. You don’t need anything else to know that this is nothing but punitive design to keep people from voting. You can’t provide water for people about to vote? Give me a break.” – President Joe BIDEN, March, 2021.

FACT: The law allows for self-service water from unattended receptacles. the law bans political groups from offering food and water within 150 feet of a voting location, just as many other states do. voters are allowed to bring food and water with them.

Out of Context Journalism is disgusting.

I thought it actually parodied the "progressive" activists who treated Larry like Rosa Parks. Ted Danson in the last episode completely embodied this. MAny may not have even noticed the subtle scorn of Danson's narcisisim. Larry may be in actual life a man of the center left but he has no problem skewering anyone who deserves it.

You know I actually wonder if this was supposed to be a parody of the ridiculousness. But didn't stick around long enough to find out. I guess I was triggered. Our current political climate is not entertaining to me. Even sometimes in parody, with exceptions.

True. Great point.

Hard agree on this. Sometimes it is easy to separate the art from the artist, and sometimes it is impossible. That being said, I know more about the character of Larry than the real Larry, so I will continue to enjoy the show.

Thank you for saying this - the false premise made it difficult to truly enjoy the last episodes

Yes. I came here to point this out if someone else hadn't already. There's a line that people often use: "It's funny because it's so true!" One could say that Larry's and Jerry's careers are almost entirely based on that notion. When you twist the reality behind the joke in an attempt to score political as well as comedic points, you fail on both counts.

the fact he got Lori Loughlin to parody herself in the last season was pretty pretty good.

"We can all learn from Larry how to make today more meaningful. Don’t sweat the big stuff;"

Indeed... if I had the hundreds of millions that Larry David had, I would follow his sage advice...

Larry David, like many Hollywood types and podcasters, can afford to be unconcerned by life's trivialities and he can consider a prostitute a "human" for his carpooling antics because he knows he's already made a fortune being a whore...

You sound bitter and resentful. Sorry for you.

I don't think we read the same article. Recall the following two lines:

> "It’s not that Larry is oblivious to the big problem—but he’s wise enough to know that it’s useless and unsettling to obsess over it."

> "We can all learn from Larry how to make today more meaningful. Don’t sweat the big stuff; focus on what you can control."

Economic status does not apply to this philosophy. Even with his millions, he is subject to the same issues you and I are, and he can't do anything about them. Sure, He has a lot more influence than the average person with his money and fame, but how many Hollywood activists actually bring about the change they campaign for? (Has anyone checked on Leo to see how he and Greta are getting on with their climate change jihad?)

The idea behind Curb is about perspective. For instance, I'm sure you will find my perspective on this issue to be shortsighted and/or wrong. To that, I would merely ask you to not sweat this small thing in addition to the big stuff.

But if you did feel inclined to persist on sweating the big stuff, I would be remiss in not asking you, what are YOU doing about it besides complaining on internet forums?

I do quite a bit, Bill. I live in a foreign country and work as an educator. I teach kids every day to consider the moral and ethical choices they make. Nearly all of my students are wealthy scions of elite patrons... I continually challenge them to consider the ways in which they can make meaningful changes in themselves and others. I have done this for nearly 30years. And I have watched people like Larry David spout messages that people of his ilk clearly don't believe... time and time again.

Brilliant post, we can say that all about the rich and the elites of our country. It’s so easy well you have the bucks. Mizzy’s post below is not so kind towards you Obama, she just doesn’t get it.

Mizzy seems unhinged, likely poorly educated and uninteresting to me...

I don’t think poorly educated, to the contrary probably a product from one of the Ivy League universities, however your unhinged statement is probably closer to the truth about Mizzy.

Larry is funny, but politically myopic. Very typical Hollywood liberal.

Among other things, Larry's brilliance is in lampooning the absurdities in the politics of all of us ... although especially with the Hollywood types among whom he lives. Cheryl's fear of her peers hearing she doesn't like Mexican food and Ted's peacock motivations for protesting in Atlanta are not-so-subtle shots at his community (and all of us?). But he sees the "good" in their friendships and gives us all a pathway to call out such way over the top preening with love and humor. We'll miss ya, Lar!

I noted the same thing. Curb consistently skewered virtue signalling lefties of Hollywood.

Don’t like climate change? Buy a Prius and shut up! A brilliant, spot on statement! Hybrid sales are skyrocketing because commonsense people see the folly in EVs while embracing a technology easily understood that removes the anxiety of scurrying for a charger in the middle of nowhere.

Thank you Larry David for being the King of Commonsense!

I thought the show sucked

Every season I tried to watch it but never made it past the middle of the second episode.

It was Seinfeld except all the characters were George.

The incessant whining was not entertaining but just made me want to shut him up by any means possible = duct tape, a kick in his long balls,....

That said, I saw him In Fish in the Dark on Broadway around 9 years ago and he was fantastic!!!

My being a Centrist is great, I can hold these two thoughts about Larry David in my head at the same time

Expand full comment

I didn't like it, either. I thought the writing was brilliant, as it was with Seinfeld. But acted out... it was hard watching characters who had no self-awareness, yet had the insights of people who normally do have self-awareness.

For much the same reason, I can no longer watch presidential debates.

When I was a little boy growing up in Brooklyn in the 1950,*s I learned my love of the sardonic and sarcasm from Groucho on You Bet Your Life and from my first generation American Jewish family..

I never knew Larry though we grew up about 2 miles apart.

I would rate him as well as Dave Chappelle at the top of the comedy hill.

As LD might say ifI was asked *Did you like the last episode? Er um not so much.

But the rest of the seasons?

Pretty pretty excellent.

As far as I'm concerned, Larry David is a one trick pony. His series, over the years, became less funny and more formulaic and predictable. It became so painful to watch, I had to stop viewing it years ago. How somebody could have extended a career by being boorish was beyond my pay grade. In all honesty, power outages during the viewing of his show were welcome.

I never watched Frasier

But I’m told the kids love it

It has new life

Not that that changes your larger point

But I think it’ a thing again

I don’t mean the reboot

Actually… it probably explains the reboot

Larry David is brilliant, and I’ve long enjoyed his unique takes on the human condition. But his comedy is running out of gas in the 12th season. The comic situations seem more contrived, with too many focused on adolescent vulgarities. How many jokes about genitalia and oral sex do we need? His friend Jerry Seinfeld had it right: go out when you’re on top, before you run out of ideas.

Larry b---- the hot Palestinian chick who promises to "f--- the Jew out of you." Why? Because the male sex organ doesn't care about national boundaries, it simply needs to be satiated. Comic genius.
