So...Russia = “oppressor” and we don’t care about their children; and Israel = “oppressor” so we don’t care about theirs. Wow. THIS is the height of Western culture that we’ve been developing for centuries???

You could say it’s leftist in the sense that it is very sympathetic to Meir, who was a woman of the Israeli left, but it doesn’t get into her politics at all. Basically the controversy as I understand it is that in the aftermath many many Israelis blamed Meir for being taken by surprise by the Arab attack. However, apparently newly declassified documents the past decade or so reveal that it wasn’t her fault at all, it was military leadership/intelligence failures for which she, already dying of cancer, selflessly took the blame. I don’t know the real truth, but that more sympathetic view of Golda is the movie’s approach.
Also regarding your comment I was nervous too but it’s important to note this is not in fact coming out of Hollywood, it’s an Israeli film made by a director who was in bomb shelters as a child during the war, so it’s definitely much more sympathetic than a leftist Hollywood production would be to Israel.

Along the same lines, I’ve noticed a disparity on the left in the treatment of the two wars currently going on.
In the Ukraine – Russia war, everyone agrees that Russia was the aggressor, and I’ve seen them shed many tears for all the innocent Russians, being killed in the conflict.
In the Israel – Gaza war, while even many on the left agree that the Gazans were the aggressors (although the leftist position is that the terrorism was “justified” and “caused” by Israel) the “de rigeur” position of everyone on the left is to loudly emote over civilian casualties among the Palestinians (regardless of how many warnings Israel has given them to evacuate).
So...Russia = “oppressor” and we don’t care about their children; and Israel = “oppressor” so we don’t care about theirs. Wow. THIS is the height of Western culture that we’ve been developing for centuries???

You could say it’s leftist in the sense that it is very sympathetic to Meir, who was a woman of the Israeli left, but it doesn’t get into her politics at all. Basically the controversy as I understand it is that in the aftermath many many Israelis blamed Meir for being taken by surprise by the Arab attack. However, apparently newly declassified documents the past decade or so reveal that it wasn’t her fault at all, it was military leadership/intelligence failures for which she, already dying of cancer, selflessly took the blame. I don’t know the real truth, but that more sympathetic view of Golda is the movie’s approach.
Also regarding your comment I was nervous too but it’s important to note this is not in fact coming out of Hollywood, it’s an Israeli film made by a director who was in bomb shelters as a child during the war, so it’s definitely much more sympathetic than a leftist Hollywood production would be to Israel.
