The “cure” to COVID was far worse than the disease. Ineffective lockdowns, masks, school closures, and money printing were the main sources of societal and economic harm - not a disease with a 99.9% survival rate in healthy young people. COVID vaccines and masking never worked; these lies and mandates destroyed all trust in public health. Many people like me lost their jobs over this madness.

The last thing we need is to give more power to failed corrupt organizations like the WHO, CDC, and Big Pharma. Follow the Great Barrington Declaration instead. I think you are conflating two different things.

1. Knowledge of a disease

2. Response to that disease

Your issue appears to be with the response to COVID and your criticisms are legitimate.

I believe this article is talking about the flow of information related to a disease so treatments can be developed and proper precautions taken. What those treatments might be and what precautions are appropriate can only be determined when we have the knowledge to execute them.

Further, I would point out, that without good information, people will instantly assume the worst, which is not an unreasonable response to unknown risk.

And, to be fair, COVID was not a nothingburger, it just was not what the media sold us. At some point though, we will have a more deadly pandemic, it just seems statistically inevitable.

To be fair? Let's be honest. The Chinese Communist government lied about Covid -19 from the start. I think it disingenuous to say that. You cannot diagnose or treat a disease, much less relay reliable information about it, without knowing what it is. As relates to Covid 19, we will never know because the handling was botched from.the outset. And not just by the CCP.

"At some point though, we will have a more deadly pandemic, it just seems statistically inevitable".

The most troubling aspect of this report is the apparent resistance of the bacterium (M. pneumoniae) deemed responsible for the outbreak to antibiotics, which in China is estimated to be 70-90%. Bacterium resistance to antibiotics has been increasing worldwide for decades. China is the world’s biggest petri dish. Sooner or later a super bug will emerge from it or India. I wonder if the geniuses at CDC are testing the efficacy of our antibiotics for M. pneumoniae and other troublesome bacterium. I wonder if they’re investigating our production capacity to produce effective antibiotics or if we even have the capacity. I wonder if they feel any urgency for developing new antibiotics to combat lethal bacterium strains resistant to any current antibiotics that will inevitably hit our shores.

Speaking of the flow of information, it was disheartening that so few "new" pieces of information were allowed to come out of the CDC, NIH, or other involved government agencies. We only ever received policy prescriptions, rather than new findings and data. Meanwhile, the UK was regularly releasing information about new strains of COVID, and a great deal of information was coming out of Israel as well. I would love for an investigation, whether journalistic or congressional, to be made of the question: How did the CDC perform so poorly, particularly in comparison to some other national health organizations whose budgets are some small fraction of the $7 billion (?) the CDC had in 2020. Such an investigation should also consider the limited messaging by the CDC to be contributory to whatever crisis of "mis/disinformation" that followed.

Being a doctor who cared for patients with COVID, one of the problems with our response is crazy nonsense like this. It was depressing to watch 90% of our COVID deaths be from unvaccinated people. Over and over and over, including some friends of mine. It is quite the conspiracy to think every hospital in the country kept seeing this trend and only deranged OB doctors were the ones to see something different. I fear a lot of people who read The Free Press seem to have lost the ability to interpret information because they are so mad about lockdowns, masks, the election and whatever else.

Vaccines should not be lumped together with masks, or lockdowns or whatever. Don't let your tribalism lump those things all together.

Expand full comment

I am a Free Press reader and not anti-vaxx. However, I'm just curious about the 90% of Covid deaths be from unvaccinated people. Do you, then, include people who died before the vaccines were made available? My issue with the government response to all of this was (1) travel bans were seen as sinister and something that could not be enforced; (2) gov of NY and mayor of NYC telling people to go out to celebrate Lunar New Year because people in the other political party were asking questions; (3) not telling people who were symptomatic to wear masks initially because they thought those people would be discriminated against and then no one would want to wear a mask ... uh ... (4) telling people that just putting anything over their face was going to keep them safe; (5) requiring masks outside in open places; (6) having some people declared "essential" like workers at Home Depot; (7) shutting down other businesses as non-essential even if they could show they could use PPE the same way a hospital used it; (8) shutting down places of worship but doing nothing with large scale protests; (9) firing people who didn't want to be vaccinated (supposedly this was going to include members of the military but none of them were actually removed from service and the vaccine was never given to all soldiers); (10) caving to the teachers unions and keeping schools closed even when it became fairly clear who the most vulnerable populations were, and so on. Couple those things with the number of states attorneys general suing pharmaceutical companies, the profits of pharmaceutical companies, the Trump Derangement Syndrome (and I'm not defending him at all), and the attempted lock down of thought about Covid that was not in step with Anthony Fauci and you wonder why the vaccine wasn't attractive to some people?? We were told the vaccine would prevent Covid, then that changed to prevent Covid deaths, then that changed to lessen the symptoms? It is not the people who have lost the inability to interpret information. It is the government's inability to put out a truthful message. For a physician who spent years understanding the nature of disease and so on it might seem very simple but for everyone else it was panic and then rage.

Expand full comment

Yes, this! I, too, believe that the vaccine helped more than it hurt. My daughter is a critical care nurse and it was terrible for that period before the vaccine release. And yes it didn’t stop but it definitely slowed and outcomes were better. But the response was terrible, everything you mentioned. We are still suffering the effects of the stupid policies that the government enforced. And what really burns me up is the way the monsters wanted to hold on to their power as long as they could possibly get away with it. And monster-in-chief is still in the White House. Although to be fair, he’s not the one who’s really in control.

Most people who comment on this site see quite clearly. For me, the COVID vaccine was junk that caused more harm than good. Never again. How many were killed with Remdesivir and ventilators?

Expand full comment

Not to be facetious, but that is ludicrous. If you are in the hospital and near a ventilator, you are already close to dying. My bet is that a lot of the readers here know someone who died of COVID and still believe these kinds of ridiculous things.

Again, here is someone who can't analyze each facet individually, so instead they throw shade on all of it. What does Remdesivir have to do with vaccines? Or mandates have to do with ventilators? When a person disbelieves everything related to COVID, you have to start wondering.

And for the record, with all of the patients I watched die of respiratory failure due to COVID, I never saw anyone die of the vaccine. And to throw a little nuance at all of it, it is true that a person is nearly bulletproof from COVID in the first 3 months after being immunized. After that, you can get sick, but the fact remains that your odds of dying from COVID in 2021 were 90% higher if you were unimmunized.

Relating to the article, as long as we have crackpots that have to reflexively disagree with whatever Joe Biden says, we will have a segment of the population unprepared to harvest correct information.

Expand full comment

Thank you for being the voice of reason. I know 4 people who died. None were vaccinated. Two were nurse practitioners who encouraged patients not to get the vaccine.

If you were an unimmunized 20 year old, your odds of getting COVID-19 were the same as the odds of an immunized 50 year old getting it, and odds of dying were lower, per CDC. Your 90% of people dying from unvaccinated - does that include those who died pre-vaccine? Also, of those who were unvaccinated, typically how old were they? What co-morbidities did they have? You are throwing out a figure out there that in and of itself is far from a complete story.

The efficacy of the Covid vaccine is far from 100%. Now, flu shots often have fairly low efficacy (some years < 50%), but you don't see flu shots mandated among the general population. The Covid vaccine was oversold and over-enforced.

Now, lest you think I am anti-Vaxx, I can tell you that this fall I got both the Covid booster and flu shot. But then I am in my 60s and somewhat overweight. I weighed the risks and felt it was better for me to get the shot.

But universally mandate them? I don't think so.

My point about age group was assessing risk properly. "Unvaccinated" wasn't the only risk factor and the tiny percentage of people 18-29 who died of the disease mostly had other comorbidities like obesity and diabetes. We knew all of that in early 2021, but no one bothered to communicate it. There was no reason for healthy people 18-29 without comorbidities to get vaccinated, because there was virtually zero risk to them from the disease (perhaps if they had a sick relative to avoid transmitting to).

We also could have more effectively communicated on other risk factors to save more lives. A 55+ year old diabetic person who was vaccinated should have been wearing N95 masks in public thru mid 2022 (nobody ever should have worn surgical or cloth masks, nearly pointless). Until omicron hit and cleared the pandemic mostly, they were at significant risk still. Instead, people got vaccinated and acted immune.

Your 90% number may be accurate for you, but the CDC had the share of vaccinated as a fraction of all deaths at 20% by fall 2021, and by summer 2022 it was 50% due to waning vax effectiveness versus omicron and the 4:1 ratio of vax to unvax. I.e. at 50%, the vax is reasonably protective but with 4x as many people vaccinated, the deaths turned out equal by that point.

Expand full comment

Serious question: how many of the deaths were from people that were 20-30 year old healthy caucasians? Do you think that 20-30 year old caucasians with no risk factors needed to get vaccinated? Did you have a concern at all that no one ever was straight with people about what actual risk factors there were beyond age? And who really needed to be concerned about vaccination? Would more people have believed public health officials if they acted more trustworthy and ended up more trusted?

How did it help things that they went right on and scared everyone into vaccinating their kids for mostly no reason?

Expand full comment

I think it is a fine idea for 20-30 year olds to get vaccinated. We saw a few healthy young people die from COVID. Even in that age group, the risks of the vaccine were lower than the risks of the disease. The margin is a lot slimmer for sure. Even young men who were more likely to get myocarditis from immunization were safer getting the vaccine. Keep in mind the myocarditis is caused by an immune reaction to the viral protein, so myocarditis was an occurrence with the disease as well.

In our hypercritical polarized environment, it is just plain hard. They could have done better to let go of masking sooner when it seemed like it didn't work. They could have abandoned the idea of vaccinating kids a lot sooner. We thought those were meaningful interventions early on, but they just plain aren't. Definitely should have let kids back in school sooner. My state did that, based on the best evidence in the fall 2020. We thought it was going to be OK, but it would be a lie that my hospital staff didn't hold their breath a bit hoping our caseload wouldn't explode. It is terrible that other states didn't follow us sooner. As far as getting more people immunized, it seems like there were just going to be conspiracy theories, exaggerations and all out denials of the truth no matter what. Because Joe Biden said to get vaccinated, some people would refuse based on that alone.

Expand full comment

I also would suggest dropping the phrase "the vaccine" when referring broadly to risks. Even Moderna and Pfizer were massively different products. There is a reason several countries banned use of Moderna in young men, and not Pfizer, having to do with the specifics of the vaccine and some bad choices made by Moderna about choice of antigen. Let's just say choosing your antigen to be a naturally bioactive product in an active form is not the greatest idea for a vaccine anyone ever had in a world where attenuation is common. Pfizer got it right.

Expand full comment

No one had any true measure of the risks of the vaccine in 2021. The new technology mRNA vaccines had been administered to very few people for a few months, so it was perfectly reasonable for any individual to be concerned about long term safety. Just look at how H1N1 vaccines turned out to cause severe debilitating narcolepsy in up to 1 in 400, and European countries that mandated them came to regret it.

I have no idea how a doctor can think that masking didnt work. The best evidence out there that it did, which is not in any trial or controlled setting, is that we went from ER and other hospital docs dying from the disease to very few in-hospital transmissions.

In fact, a few outbreaks in hospitals were traced to staff members eating together unmasked rather than patient exposure while properly masked.

I was very sick but when I went to the ER for tachycardia (168 BPM at rest sitting watching TV) two starkly different things happened. A nurse told me she was seeing people die from the boosters and vaxed people dying from omicron (I sobbed so hard and bitterly after this they sent her out and had to shoot me up with Ativan so I could stop shaking enough to keep the heart monitor on) The doctor I saw later, when I asked him about what the nurse said, he replied "had you not gotten that booster you would be upstairs in the ICU with the rest of our unvaccinated patients." I was so confused. I was caring for my mother so didn't have time to research about it much but after she passed in March 2022 I started following Dr. Ryan Cole, Dr. Peter McCullough, Karen Kingston, Steve Kirsch, Dr. John Campbell, and others. I saw so many people posting about loved ones who died suddenly or developed turbo cancer after the shots. I have been a wreck for the past year spending every waking moment in terror grief and fear of sudden death from the Vax or from covid reinfection. My job requires me to ride multiple buses a day and go in and out of people's private residences. I haven't gotten a flu shot in the past two years bc I read horrible things about how they are putting mrna in the flu shots and there is a depopulation agenda. Right now I have a bit of a sore throat and am scared maybe I screwed myself by not getting the flu or covid shots since 2021 but I was just so scared I just didn't want to die bc all I did was work and caregive the past few years. All I wanted in the world was one good day. Will my past flu and covid shots from 2021 still help if I get sick this year? Do I have any T cell memory? My sister had a covid induced cardiac arrest and arterial dissection in her brainstem in 2020 before any shots so I mask whenever I can but still drink coffee in small cafes between clients every day as it is the only pleasure I have left in my life after all that has happened and when I couldn't even do that I thought about ending it all. You can't actually say that, folk die from complications of the common cold and the common 'flu every day. The only thing a virus or bacteria "thinks" about is propogating; having your personal interests at heart aren't part of their programming.

If the lab had been Fort Detrick and actually IN the bioweapon business, the likelihood of the Kung Flu getting out would have been much reduced; but still not zero. Instead the lab was doing research without its' head screwed on and the lab's backers only in making moolah and getting around their own pesky regulations and safety measures.

We will never know the real numbers, because the money trail is being covered by time and other issues. What we did hear and learn is that many people, companies and institutions all benefitted $financially from following Covid mandates / directions from the cities, states and our government. Most, not all, but most of this occurred in 2021 and beyond.

Expand full comment

Why does everyone think we can't know the real numbers? I totally agree with all who are saying that the numbers were falsified to get additional US gov't $ for each "Covid" death, but a fairly predictable number of people die each and every year, and it was pretty easy to see for 2020 and 2021 how many more people died than usual. Yes, some of that was depression/suicide from lockdowns, but that was more than offset by the reductions in, for example, traffic fatalities.

So those numbers, known as "excess deaths", are pretty trustworthy as an estimate of the pandemic-caused deaths.

I just looked and the excess deaths for March 2020-March 2022 which is the pandemic period is pretty close to the nominal 1,150,000 COVID deaths. I don't believe the two are equal, because as I said I do believe you are all right that there is fudging going on. What I think it means is that the fudging is 10-15%, not a larger portion.

10-15% fudging makes the real covid death number closer to 1,000,000 instead of 1,150,000. Then why would the excess deaths number match the higher number? Well the real 1,000,000 plus another 150,000 deaths that are things like COVID lockdown depression suicides and regular old annual increases in opioid deaths that got lost in the shuffle, since no one's doing much of anything about those.

They were isolated and cut off from emotional support they were denied basic nutrition and hydration. They were given massive doses of life ending drugs. If this unproven accusation continues, no one will ever believe that the candidate of their choice lost an election. No, I didn't and won't vote for Biden or Trump.

I did not say mail in ballots are "bad", they were clearly abused by the governments.

Who knows if Trump voted or not. Im not sure that has any bearing on this. Mail in has been avail for years, and esp for those "thousands" who dont have health situations, it is a useful tool, albeit it is badly abused by many.

re evidence ; the majority of cases brought were dismissed by judges, as the plaintiff(s) had shown " no standing" to bring the case. I understand "standing" to mean, the person bringing the suit needed to show harm to themselves by a direct action. My reply is this; the judges and administrative systems in various states are hiding behind/using some legalese that blocks the states from scrutiny in this area.

Stepping back emotionally, I think a rational person would see the dozens or maybe hundreds of purported voter fraud claims and frankly cheating that was done around the US, as something to question.

Im sure you and others here have seen many of the examples brought forward the past 3 years, and the cases dismissed. (Keri Lake and Arizona is a classic and it needs sunlight). Perhaps it is for the reason that it is too late, and I believe the judges and others dont want to deal with the fallout/implications arising from a needed new election.

Voting results are supposed to happen "overnight". I propose mail in with a valid reason and ID, all in person voting same day, with proper/acceptable id shown. No excuses for the "ID excuse". Anyone can get an ID if they care enough to vote. I care, I register and I show up in person. Why isn't ID required for mail in ballots then? Hell, my grown kids were still getting mail in ballots for the state of WA, when they had moved 10 years later to another state. The voting system is corrupted by all the "special interest, special needs" groups. We can address the special needs folks as one offs, not the entire population.

all the best, rich

How could there possibly be everyone voting on the same day? How would you accomodate the mile long lines and the people who have to work on that day? Which "special needs, special interest groups" are you refering to? What would be a "valid reason" for mail in? How do you present a "valid ID" for a mail in ballot. I agree about a valid ID to vote. I had to have one in Florida. I like the Australian version; everyone who is a citizen has to vote or be fined. I don't know if they have write ins. I'd keep that part.

As to your other assurtions, I don't know enough to comment. When someone says they "believe," I generally classify that under opinion. People can believe anything they want to believe and that doesn't mean it's true.

We have learned a lot from Covid!

1. The WHO is a corrupt arm of the Gates foundation, and Davos, seeking to control and issue global digital currency.

2. The CDC and FDA are bought and paid for by Pharma.

3. The guidance on controlling Covid was neither effective nor safe. Millions were harmed from lockdowns, masks, social distancing and the like.

4. We threw our children and elderly under the bus.

5. We sacrificed our informed consent and were manipulated into taking a gene therapy that was neither safe nor effective. We were lied to— and still are— about the safety of these products.

6. People are eager to prove they are good and are easily led to slaughter by virtue signaling and propaganda.

7. Covid was the biggest wealth transfer of all time.

8. Science and data are easily manipulated and bought.

9. The governent actively censored any narrative that didn’t go along. Even when they were right. The government is not our friend, and does not have our best interests at heart.

I wouldn’t trust a thing the WHO or the CDC say about this. They are hard left wing entities designed for propaganda not science or medicine

So, who's ready for another round of lockdowns? Another year of missed school for kids. Another 15 pounds of obesity and inactivity. Another year of every event being shut down. Another year of families not allowed to spend time together. Another year of neighbors calling the police on anyone for having a party. Another year of everyone retreating further into their online world.

Should lockdowns be issued I am fairly confident rational Americans will have something to say about that. We will not tolerate that again. Probably for at least, hopefully, a generation.

I think that depends on what part of the country you are in. I bet CA and NY would jump right on that chance.

The governments may. Most people will ignore the lockdown orders to the best of their ability.

“China Says This New Outbreak Is Nothing to Worry About. How Can We Be Sure?”

What in the wide world of sports would give anyone any reason to trust a single thing, “China says,” especially when the word “outbreak” is attached to it.

China is the world heavyweight of liars.

You know what's really frightening? That in any part of "transparency," the writer would cite WHO as a trustworthy organization. If you rely on WHO or any of the other nonsense public healthy agencies from the U.S. to the U.N. to every other country, we're doomed.

Our boy Biden, sitting in China’s back pocket, will be ineffective again. He refused to push for accountability with the origins of CoViD 19 so now we are left to guess about the Wuhan lab procedures that should be verified as now adequate. China stonewalls the rest of the world when it comes to a potentially deadly disease originating there, and Biden doesn’t push for transparency. I am told that over 1.1 million Americans have died of CoViD - imagine the attention if that were car crashes or food poisoning popping up again. China killed over a million of us without firing a single shot. They are warping our minds and tracking our movements with TikTok. They are sapping our treasure with unfair trade and theft of intellectual property. And our boy Biden took bribes from them. We are truly f***ed.

I guarantee you the world is not shutting down again. That is one thing we learned from the Covid debacle. Good luck with a fast tracked “vaccine” too.

One of the more ironic aspects of all of the lying and obfuscation by Fauci and CDC is that they missed a golden opportunity to actually prevent the outbreak. We KNEW and KNOW that the best upfront preventative for any infection is a healthy immune system. Exercise, sunlight (or vitamin D), diet and so on. We never heard a word about these from the CDC. Why were they silent when Cuomo, Whitmer and others mixed the sick with the well in nursing homes: we KNEW and KNOW that this bordered on the criminal.

What about saline spray - research has shown it to be effective at neutralizing the virus, and drastically reducing hospitalizations and deaths. What about UV light - the National Academies concluded it was effective in killing both covid and other viruses. Why didn't we hear then - why aren't we hearing now - about these? Too "old school?" Not "Big ____ (substitute Pharma, Government ...) enough? The CDC's failing the covid pandemic is the best evidence we have against universal health care.

When hearing of a new potential outbreak of disease, the first thought that comes to mind is that the Democrats need a pretext for again removing all election integrity measures. This is then reinforced when learning that the potential threat comes from China, which has long been, shall we say, "friends" with the Democrats. Is this a reasonable reaction to have? While it could well be completely wrong, it's certainly not irrational, given recent history. And that speaks to a bigger problem.

WHO you gonna believe? WHO. No, Who is on first. Here we go again. We are told we need to put our faith and trust in global and multi national organizations once again. And of course with zero transparency ( calling Jen Psaki and Karine Jean Pierre who are the transparency twins, or so they say). Please please please do not bring back the Fauch for a return engagement.

The minute anyone says anything that begins with the words “China says…” doubt must immediately follow. From business leaders to the official medical world to our foreign policy establishment, they keep hoping, with fingers crossed, that Chinese leadership might be telling the truth this time. For China, there is no punishment for lies, as we saw when Xi was applauded by US business execs in CA recently. A travel ban for not sharing information with other countries might be the incentive needed for truth. Can that be nonpartisan?
